Frequently asked questions
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time directly inside the app:
- Open Heimdel and tap the account icon (top right on iPad, profile icon on iPhone).
- Tap Delete Account, read the warning, then tap Continue.
- Type
DELETEto confirm. If you signed in with Apple, you will be asked to re-authenticate so we can revoke the link with your Apple ID.
Deletion is permanent. If you’re the only member of your family space, all your shared calendar events, sticky notes, to-do lists, and uploaded photos are deleted with the account. If others are linked to the same family, ownership is transferred to another member and only your personal user record is removed.
If you can’t reach the in-app option for any reason, email contact@heimdel.com from the address linked to your account and we will delete it for you.
I can’t sign in
Heimdel uses Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. If sign-in fails:
- Make sure your device has an internet connection.
- If you signed up with a specific provider, use the same one to sign back in — accounts are not merged across providers.
- Check that you’re using the same Apple ID or Google account you originally signed up with.
If the problem continues, email us with the provider you used and the time you tried; we can look up the request in our logs.
What is a demo account?
If you tap Explore without an account on the sign-in screen, the app creates a temporary anonymous account so you can try Heimdel without committing. The data you add is private to that demo account. Demo accounts are automatically deleted 30 days after creation.
If you want to keep the data you added, open the account screen while in demo mode and tap the upgrade prompt to convert your demo account into a regular Heimdel account using Sign in with Apple or Google.
I added a family member but they don’t see my data
Family members you add inside the app are entries in your family space (used to show who’s assigned to a calendar event or who created a sticky note). They are not invitations to log in.
For another person to see your shared family content from their own device, they need to be linked to the same family space. We’re actively working on a sharing flow for this; for now please email us if you’d like to link two existing accounts.
Weather isn’t showing my city
Tap the location field on the weather widget and start typing your city name. Heimdel uses the Open-Meteo geocoding service to find a match. If your city doesn’t appear, try a nearby larger city — the forecast will be very close.
Photos aren’t syncing
Photos sync over the same connection as the rest of your family content. If they appear stuck:
- Pull to refresh on the screen, or close and reopen the app.
- Confirm your device has a working internet connection.
- Very large photos can take longer to upload — give it up to a minute on a slow connection.
The Android tablet keeps going to sleep
Heimdel is designed to be left running on a wall-mounted Android tablet. To keep the screen on, in Android system settings open Display → Screen timeout and choose the longest option, or enable Stay awake while charging in Developer options. Heimdel itself does not override system display settings.
